The pterygopalatine fossa (PPF), an inverted conical viscerocranial space beneath the skull base, is anatomically bounded by the maxillary sinus anteriorly, the pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone posteriorly, the greater palatine foramen inferiorly, the foramen rotundum and the inferior orbital fissure superiorly, the palatine bone medially, and the infratemporal fossa laterally.1,2 It houses 2 coronal planes: (1) a superficial vascular plane harboring the distal segment of the maxillary artery and veins and (2) a deeper neural plane comprising the maxillary nerve (V2), pterygopalatine ganglion, and Vidian nerve.1,2
